Robert E. Shanahan
Founder, Chairman
Bob began his career in transportation nearly 58 years ago with the Katy railroad in downtown Pittsburgh. After serving the U.S. Army in the Korean War, Bob returned home and returned to the railroads. He began his sales career at Western Freight Consolidators in the mid 1950's serving customers across the western Pennsylvania region including Ohio and West Virginia. In the early 60's Bob began his career in LTL (Less than Truckload) with Cooper-Jarrett Freight Lines - first as a sales rep, and eventually terminal manager in Irwin, Pennsylvania. He also worked for Quinn Freight Lines before accepting a position with a new type of company, in a new type of transportation - a brokerage. In 1980, brokerage was in it's infancy, and this is where Bob's sales expertise and relationships enabled him to achieve success. Finally after 8 years, his entrepreneurial spirit kicked in, and with the support of some close friends and customers, he started Shanahan Transportation Systems with his son Tom. From the humble beginnings in a one room office, Shanahan Transportation Systems now has a staff of more than 18 people. Bob's experience and understanding of the industry remains a priceless figure in our arsenal of tools to serve our customers.
From the beginning, Bob made sure the company put an emphasis on putting the best personnel available at our customers disposal. Over the years that tradition continued and today Shanahan Transportation Systems boasts one of the most experienced staff in the industry. Our is and always will be on providing our customers with high quality, customer driven solutions.
